so we're not being very kwlie again... and its the time of year you get these standard threads on forums, so lets do it!
2008 has been pretty disappointing musically, the only new discoveries i've made are bands that haven't had new music out this year. i guess after an epic 2007 in terms of music, there was bound to be a lull. 2009 is already looking better though. these are the albums i'm aware should be happening and which i look forward to.

Incubus greatest hits
Water and Bodies (ep at least)
Deas Vail
Circa Survive
Dear Hunter (Act III!!!)
Dredg
Glassjaw (possibly, this is quickly becoming a chinese democracy)
Muse (i'm sure i heard theyre working on a new album...)
Ashley Mendel
Billy Talent

DVDs:
Delirious - My Soul Sings
TREOS

should be wicked, and thats not accounting for anything new i get into, which i really hope i do.

our levels of kwlie have been a mildly epic fail recently (as the internet would say).

2009 should be good. waters and bodies and the dear hunter will be the tops, muse should be good.

for me:

probable and v. exciting:
The Dear Hunter
Water and Bodies
Imogen Heap (been waiting for this for longs)
the decemberists

slightly less probably or slightly less exciting:
the maccabees
muse
metric
sufjan
the divine comedy
joanna newsom

i think i've missed loads, but i'm out of touch atm.

oh heck, portugal. the man have not yet been mentioned by me on this thread. so here goes:

portugal. the man will have a 2009 album. pretty likely, as the last three have been 2008, 2007, and 2006.

according to kerrang, biff le clyro will have an album out this year. i hope the success of puzzle doesn't push them into an even radio-friendlier sound. not that puzzle was at all bad, but their quirkiness is definately a strength.

my sentiments exactly, amplified a little by the relative weakness of mountains. no quirk at all, but it gets played on tv shows quite a bit.

Stoney says "On the music front there's been lots going on behind the scenes over the last year and I'll be making lots of releases & playing live lots this year. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to do it in the current uncertain climate, and it's doing my head in a bit."

Wicked-ish

On the negative front, he's moving more semi-permanently to Austin, which means away from Sheffield.

He also posted a video of "Midnight, New Years eve. Just me, my glock, my memories and my hopes for the new year. Please don't feel pity, it's just how I wanted it."
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mDqz484VIZQ

and this video reflecting on the year, which i think is hilarious http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=08eOxjuoHxg&feature=channel_page

it is a fantastic record.

there's a post my his mate on the forum saying there's DEFINITELY music on it's way, which is reassuring.

Ben Ken say's on his blog:

Quote:
I thought I’d come up for air and let you know I’m still alive. All sorts of cool stuff has been going on, to the point that bringing in the new year has taken the back seat. I’l sum it all up in less than 20 words:

• More work done on my DVD.

• Ashley finished his solo disc.

• Working on new Incubus tracks and they bang.

each one of those bullet points is way hardcore. yes...

i would guess so, yeah. have you checked out the incubus forum recently? renman started a thread asking fans for suggestions for a bonus disk to go with the greatest hits. a lot of requests have been made for covers, which is a bad idea, but some people have put forward some cool things.

i know we're only a couple of weeks into january, but i'm becoming so impatient for 2009 music. where is it all!?

whereas i already have two 2009ers.

Noble Beast- Andrew Bird
Home- Gavin Castleton

both leaked. AB sounds like the last two, which is a good sound, but i'd like him to explore some. having said that, i think towards the second half of the album he does, i just haven't listened to it much yet. the song off it i've been mix-taping recently is different enough that i'm not sure who it is until the strings kick in.

12th January Verdict: hopeful. haven't given it much time yet due to GavCaz. expecting it to be a solid album, as in really good without being excellent. further listens are more likely to make me think more highly rather than less highly of it, and i already like it, therefore = yay.

home is, actually, freaking beautiful. if a bit schizophrenic, i feel atm. the melodies are glorious at times. i need to get my tyeeth into it a lot more still. as for concept, that will be the live or die factor for this (or really love/really like factor). so far it hasn't clicked for me yet, there's some sort of happy ending which isn't real, and things. and i think his dog sings him a song. maybe when i have the lyrics booklet, or just more home-related bloggings coming up to the release date, it'll come clear.
only thing i don't really like atm is track 4, sugar on the sheets, which is the sex song- i assume. i just don't like the musical style of it, kinda like slightly cheesy, slightly funky.

i'm bored, 85%-95%, today. i had a look at my old album lists, and there were around 8 top records each in 2006 and 2007 (that were both released and loved-by-me in that year: later discoveries are irrelevant), but maybe half that for 2008. 2008 was not much of a year for music. but i have SUCH a good feeling about 2009. on the definitely-this-year, bands-i-already-know list, there's maybe 8, allowing for a roughly equal distribution of disappointments and pleasant surprises. then there's a whole load of awesome probably/possibly stuff. and no doubt a few n00bs will change my life, as every year.

yeah, that's a pretty accurate assessment for me as well. currently i think i'm most looking forward to Deas Vail, which is suprising, but they keep growing on me. hurry up....

with regard to Water and Bodies:

Quote:
so it looks like the band will be recording a 5-6 song EP in Early to Mid- February. It looks like it will be a mostly digital release, but the band is hoping to press vinyl. Nothing confirmed as of yet as far as track listings or a release date. Hopefully the turn around time on it won't be too much because they are working with a close friend to produce it who is also starting his own record label. So keep an eye out for updates from the studio and maybe a live demo of a track in the coming weeks.

yes
