'bout time these guys got a thread. a setlist was posted on crimson solitude earlier from a show they played the other night.
Celebration Song
Free World
"Animals"
"Love Song"
Mr. Stranger
"Acoustic"
Naked In The Rain
"" denotes working title.
dudes need to get some better song titles.

true story. Mr Stranger is the only one i like. and it's not great. most of the rest could be FotC songs. especially if you combine them... Naked in the Free World would be super.
needless to say, i am well up for this band. maybe a potential bright side is that we might get music out of them slightly more frequently? without the whole scope of the K-Fly bizzle, they might not spend so long on a record. not in a 'making it less good' way, just an 'aiming for something less time-intensive' way.

maybe so. sounds like their first ep will be straight downloadable, no hard-copy, although they are talking vinyl, which may hold things up a bit.

that's cool. i wonder how kaddisfly the sound will be? obviously one less guitar, so less big, i assume, and less complex in terms of different stuff going on at once. the youtube stuff gave a vague impression of more straightforwardness, though it's hard to tell in the tube. i don't know whether i want them to be more straightforward. we'll see.

i think all in all i'd rather just have k-fly, but these guys are one of my favourite groups of musicians regardless, so i'm sure they can pull off something good.

to those disappointed that they seem to be throwing away kaddisfly, simply put Kaddisfly is not Kaddisfly without Kile, Aaron, Kelsey, Chris, and Beau. Kile moved on in his life and Kaddisfly is on hold until the five of them are able to reunite and write music together again. The music is quite different than Kaddisfly. It reminds me of milder Glassjaw (must've run all day) and incubus(Punch Drunk) crossed with Mute Math and Death Cab. But don't forget that it's still 4 of kaddisfly members and the similarities are obvious to anyone who was already a fan. Although it's tough to see when there has been no music released the reaction at live shows and among fans in Portland has been overwhelmingly positive. The songs are dynamic and interesting and leave myself (at least for my part) wanting more. so just be patient, Chris has also changed up the way he sings a little for the project. The music is softer so he doesn't have to stretch himself all the time to be louder and higher than the music so he is able to sing in a lower register quite a bit. Lyrically he's also become a lot more relative and where lyrics seemed forced and almost deliberately pretentious, they now flow and tell a story. Anyways, just really stoked for everyone to hear what they end up recording. |
just in case you hadn't seen that. i hadn't, til just now. good points: anything that sounds like Punch Drunk is worthy. more muted overall sound is cool. not having to sing high and loud all the time is definitely good. i love his lower register on things like Summer Solstice. less forced lyrics? i must admit, that's double-edged for me-- sometimes the actual lyrics annoyed me, but i have grown pretty attached to how he chops up words and things and completely forces lyrics to fit where he wants them to fit, regardless of making sense. like ending a line after the first syllable of 'difference'.

We spent another wonderful day with Ryan Furlott at Rain City Studios yesterday working on material that will soon become the first WATER & bodies EP. The music is coming along super. I think we are creating a new genre. Lets call it Groovy Goodness. I feel like its music that all walks of life will appreciate. I think our goal of bringing back honest, meaningful, & no bull s*#% music will come across in this EP! We have some great ideas on how we will be recording and releasing it. Can’t wait to fill you all in on it soon! |

tracking for the EP is all done, they are reviewing the first round of mixes this week. the band is hoping to release the EP asap as they are already getting eager to work on a full length. They will tour over the summer to support the EP, but hope to be back in the studio by the late Fall to work on an LP. The artwork is nearing completion as well for the EP so the guys are hoping for a mid-late April release date. They may release the digital copy before the vinyl just for speeds sake. They want you guys to hear some tunes asap and they feel bad they haven't had something official available sooner. There should be a song from the EP posted before the end of the month. |

two songs, 'Something i can grasp' and 'Free world' are up. they sound good. apart from the dudes voice, nothing at all like k-fly really.

i don't think his voice even sounds that similar. after a couple of listens, they definitely sound good. i like how his voice strains a little when he sings 'it's a freee woorld'. in fact i really enjoy his vocal delivery, which i also did in K-Fly, for completely different reasons. he's pretty versatile/talented in that field.

just wanna remind folks that they'll also be doing a vinyl release of this. going to do a digital release for about a month to get some dough to press the vinyls. It is a very small label after all. But the band is hoping to do a 10" and a cd copy of the album will come inside the vinyl packaging as well. There probably won't be just a cd version released unless there is extreme demand. The vinyl will probably be around $15 - $20 and they're hoping to do some colored vinyl as well. |
i'm probably gonna get the vinyl just for the cd... it better be available in the UK

ah, news news news...
 |
 |
the band has already started writing for the next album. They have 5 mostly completed songs, and two complete songs that they wrote before the EP, but decided they would save for the album because they'd make more sense contextually and they will have a larger budget. They really wanna get strings involved heavily on a few of the songs and just needed time to arrange those types of things. Also there's a couple things they've been jamming for a while which may re-appear. They are hoping to go in to do a round of pre-production this month. Just get the tracks demo'd out. Probably won't record til late Summer or Fall, depending on how much they tour on this EP and how much they are able to write. Winter or Spring release prob depending on if they are still going through Rain City or not.
|
so a full album is still quite some time away, which is a shame. i just hope the EP is sustaining enough.

great EP. best through headphones, i feel.
i agree that Celebration Song is probably the weakest, though Written and Read doesn't always grab me either.

interestingly, i find that celebration song is possibly the most k-fly song? i dig written and read, but i'm a sucker for that kind of thing.
i can't decide if animals or naked in the rain is my favourite. both are so good.
