i'll be honest, why not have our own thread? we have a myspace, we're as much a band as any other listed in this forum.

i am listening to your tunes RIGHT NOW. and loving them, to be H. World Out There really does sound quite Gatsbys American Dream, in a good way. and that's definitely my favourite of the two, it's superb throughout. i like the ending of Question particularly, i like what i hear of the lyrics too, i need to listen to them both a bit more to get to know them. oh, and the little James/Phil 'ooh ooh' bit.
well that's pretty much made my day, hearing those. and it wasn't even a bad day to start with. looking forward to the third demo, if it's going to be upped.

that crazy shmatt with his panning electro-beats.
I had a quick listen to gatsby's american dream after you mentioned that to me a while ago ben, but I wasn't quite getting the similarity myself. really glad you're liking it though, means a lot

i think i'm getting the gatsbys, but i'll admit it pretty tenuous.
it occurred to me the other day that if you imagine simon neils voice on questions, particularly the verses, you've basically got biffy clyro.

it's not really an important comparison (whatever that would mean..?). but it struck me when i first heard James do it acoustic at Phil's 18th, and it struck me again when i first heard it on MySpace. today, i had it (world out there) in my head, and a Gatsby song, the hunter, in my head. and they kept transitioning into each other without me meaning to.
World Out There has been in my head all day, anyway. that verse riff, mainly. which is a) awesome-- that being not even the best part of the song or anything, and b) annoying. it makes me dance in a stampy-feety way. i look like an idiot.

our myspace is the third site that comes up on google when you type 'the great commotion'. not bad.

ooh, good question.
i've just had another few listens through, with a more critical ear, and wrote these thoughts.
The intros to the first two songs. I like them—but it would be cool to see them, or that side of your music, more fully integrated into a song. they sound tacked on. (tacked on well, but tacked on.)
Another thing i’d suggest is, it sounds good when you both sing. Maybe you could use that a little more? I was thinking, it’s another way to add emphasis, an alternative to belting it out. And listening to question, i could imagine that chorus with something a bit more vocally (but then, it doesn’t sound like it’s lacking anything, so... ). That’s just something i was randomly thinking earlier, but i think with a secondary vocal (just singing unison, harmonizing, or singing different parts, they’re all good) opens up a whole lot of possibilities. Having said that, in the three songs, two of them use phil vox, i think? So i probably don’t need to say this. If you hear my FAWM stuff, you’ll understand. I’m getting a little obsessed with multiple vocals.
Something i’ve not mentioned before: superb vocal performance on WoT.
They’re great songs. Great pop songs, really. I’d like to see you try and introduce a little more of the progressive edge that you all listen to into it. As a band on these you’re tight, but i feel you’ve got some really insanely good stuff in your reach bandwise as well as songwise (if that makes sense?).

that's very cool. apart from the electronic intro stuff, that's all stuff i would have said as well.
we're gonna look into more interesting vocal arrangements next time we write i believe. and in fact, i believe we're doing some writing tomorrow evening.
and yeah, i also agree about the progressive edge. i believe we're all talented enough, and while i'm very proud of the demo and our songs, we haven't yet got anything that sets us apart particularly. we're not meeting our full potential yet.
i'd love to integrate the drum machines and stuff into songs more fully. that would be very nice indeed.
